Clostridium botulinum is a toxin more commonly known as Botox. There are a few other brand names for this toxin, but Botox is the most widely used. Botulinum toxin works by preventing muscle contraction in the muscles it is injected into. This results in smoother skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
It is most commonly injected into the forehead, the frown lines between the eyes (the glabella) and the crow’s feet on the sides of the eyes. There are more advanced injection areas but you will need to discuss that with NP Alvarez at the time of consultation.
This is the most commonly known botox because it was first to arrive to the market. It typically starts working 3-4 days after injection and lasts on average 4 months. Because it was the first botulinum product to the market, it is also the most studied. It is currently FDA approved for crows feet and frown lines. Results from the injection may start to appear in as little as 48 hours however for results are typically seen after one week.
